Tom Laclavere: a New PhD in QUBIC Collaboration

8 octubre, 2026

On September 25th, 2026, Tom Laclavere from the Laboratoire AstroParticule et Cosmologie (APC) and QUBIC Collaboration, defender his PhD Thesis on “QUBIC Data Analysis: Realistic astrophysical components reconstruction and atmospheric mitigation using spectral imaging” at the

The work presented in this thesis focuses primarily on the design of algorithms for map reconstruction and the separation of astrophysical and atmospheric components, relying heavily on the development of instrumental simulations. Contributions regarding the Global Positioning System (GPS) associated with the QUBIC calibration source are presented—aimed at preparing for self-calibration operations—alongside the development of the instrument simulation code. Furthermore, the thesis details improvements made to the simulation chain to enhance its realism, as well as the development of a neural network-based approach to solve the inverse problem of map generation; these methods are applied to the mitigation of atmospheric contamination.
